Could You Be Paying Too Much on Essential Cover?
If your household budget is already stretched to the absolute limit with the cost of living, looking at your upcoming health insurance renewal letter might give you a proper fright. The Health Insurance Authority confirmed that the average adult premium reached €1,902, and recent price adjustments from major providers are keeping that upward trend going. It is getting harder to shake the feeling that we could be paying a bit more every year for slightly less cover.
Many of us just let our policies roll over every year because life gets in the way and the sheer number of options out there is enough to make your head spin. But if you just let it auto-renew, you could easily miss important changes to your cover, like having to pay more out of your own pocket for a hospital stay or getting less back for certain medical procedures. With prices and plans changing, that old package you signed up for years ago might not be the best deal for you anymore.
The good thing is that you have a lot more control than you think, and you will not lose your cover history or experience penalty waiting periods simply by moving to a different insurer. You could find a newer plan that offers the same medical safety net for less. Spending just twenty minutes checking the small print before you pay could keep a decent chunk of euros in your wallet over the next year.
Before you decide to sign on the dotted line, check and see if you could do yourself and your wallet a favour by comparing your Health Insurance to what is out in the market.
