Vaccine Acceptancy

There have been many ups and downs on the rollercoaster of this pandemic. Sometimes Ireland has scored poorly, for example, along with much of the EU were slow to roll out vaccines. We also endured a huge curtailment of civil liberties with more days of lockdown than any other jurisdiction. But, on the positive side, we consistently scored highest in Europe on the survival rates from ICU.

However, the metric on which Ireland stands out the most is our world beating levels of vaccine acceptancy and very low vaccine hesitancy. Our vaccine uptake has been described as the envy of Europe; no other EU jurisdiction is as accepting of the covid vaccines as we are. Vaccine acceptancy in France has grown from a mere 25% in November to 60% now. Our levels of vaccine acceptancy are over 90% and in some population cohorts over 98%. We have far higher acceptancy rates than star performers Australia and New Zealand. In the US, vaccine acceptancy and hesitancy has split along political lines with Republicans being more hesitant and Democrats being more accepting. In India, a yoga televangelist with a huge following has warned Indians off taking the vaccine. Many countries have offered cash prizes, lucky draws and free drinks to get citizens to participate in their vaccination programs.

Vaccine efficacy is of course a question of science, not politics. Biology and chemistry, pharmacology and medicine. In Ireland we seem to be of the view that science is truth and not open to much interpretation by the political expediencies of the day. We dismiss fake news and conspiracy theories which hold so much of today’s world in their grip. The information we got was not subject to censorship, we made the decision to accept the vaccine based on access to all available knowledge. Vaccine acceptancy occurred across our political spectrum. Whether your politics are left, right or centre, the chances are you either have been or are willing to get vaccinated.

Why have we so massively bought into the science of covid vaccination? Because it was the only way out of lockdown? Or perhaps it’s because our education system gave all of us some grounding in science? Or our political system that doesn’t seek to weaponize crises for political gain but for improving society? Luke O’Neill and other prominent scientists? Why do you think, despite often being late adopters of innovation, we have beaten the rest of the world on vaccine acceptancy?

To be honest I was shocked that so many people here in Ireland were willing to accept the vaccine so readily. Comments like 'I can't wait to get the vaccine', 'I can't wait to get back to normal', etc. I was the only dissenting voice in my family and cohort of friends. We are all in the 60 to 70 age range. Whenever I voiced concerns I was taken to task with comments like 'so your never going to visit us or go on holiday abroad again'' to 'don't be so selfish and think of other people'. I did a lot of reading around the vaccine and frankly I was very worried about getting it. I had major concerns about the short term and long term affects. I also had concerns about how quickly it was approved and about the fact that none of the drug companies were willing to take any responsibility for any side effects. Quite frankly I don't trust the big Drug Companies. Too many scandals over the years about some of their drug trials and lies re results. Also I was concerned about how any dissenting voice was quickly silenced by the media, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter were quick to remove any such dissenting comments. I'm worried too about the amount of new controls government throughout the world have gained over people's civil liberties since the pandemic commenced, that includes Ireland. I never even took the flu vaccine. But due to pressure from family and friends I took the first Covid vaccine 4 weeks ago. Flu like symptoms for 48 hours but severe fatigue since, I am barely able to do anything, plus very dry sore eyes. Will more ride effects appear later? Who knows. I know for sure that I won't be getting the second vaccine.

I agree with most below....mind blowing as to why people wont research anything. Ive spoken to lots of people from all cohorts and some comments are...."sure twill be great to see the grandparents again" "I just want to go for a f****** pint", "Lets just get back to normal" "...I'll do anything for a holiday" to the best one and probably my favourite......."Sure it doesnt hurt at all. One vaccine is the same as another" - Sweet mother of all that is holy! I hope there is sustainable life on the Red planet.

As someone who has had severe side effects from a previous vaccine I am very hesitant (as are the rest of my family). Please remember the Covid-19 vaccines are still in trial. Don’t end up like me with severe side effects from poorly researching a vaccine and it’s side effects.

You're right the potential side effects, short & long term, are frightening.

The virus has highlighted weaknesses in systems, even non physical ones. It has shown where we are infected by other viruses: political structures that benefit very few, the media's agenda driven utter bs on the daily to scare people, being unable to discern our own truths from the propaganda. (Other: environment, racism, vapid celebrity culture, contracts that exploit artists/sports people, general exploiting people for profit on a systemic level, mental health, stupid policy that doesn't resonate, councils not doing their jobs, I could go on...) The big pharma solutions, in cohort with nation states, will ultimately fall through too and send people back to their source of power - themselves. The vax will show this to people that it was all a mindset and always a choice. The choice is to plug into all this covid consciousness, or, choose a different way of being day to day. Lots have made the leap already...more will come aboard. The new world is beautiful, if you choose to join it but you'll get here eventually. It might take more illusions to be smashed or it might be an easy transition. Up to you.

I think it might be because Irish people are the most gullible and stupid people. Whats strange is they believe the PR in Irish media and lies from politicians. Its quite obvious that all Irish media have been taken over by corporate interests in the last 15 years, with no real journalism left anywhere. While we have politicians who don't have a mandate, breaking their oath to serve the constitution and the people, with their unscientific economically destroying lockdown policies. Together with the hse manipulation of cases via the pcr dna manufacturing technique (its not a test) and the fact that according to the cso we had a death rate in 2020 that perfect aligns with normal death rates for the last 5 years, then its very clear our government has committed treason, fraud and crimes against the people.

Here, here! Well said. No excess deaths in 2020, PCR does not test for Covid, HSE numbers are deceitful, Irish media has been bought!

Cause we have no discerning independent thinking anymore. Every believed media lies, got scared by a virus with global ifr of only 0.15% and now can't use their brain to question the sanity of putting an experimental drug in their bodies which doesnt stop them getting or transmitting covid, even though their bodies can develop full immunity to it and all variants.

The majority of Irish people under 65 are taking the vaccine for one reason... to go on holidays! Our government have used coercion to make us island dwellers compliant. On mainland Europe you can drive from country to country unvaccinated with no cert of any kind so they are much less motivated to get jabbed. Unfortunately our deceitful government is taking full advantage of the logistics of getting off our island. It's a case of take the vaccine of have considerable hassle and expense should you try and go abroad! Unlike other countries, in order maintain the domestic coercive control they are even refusing to bring in the more accurate, more convenient and less expensive antigen testing. It makes no sense, you would imagine that they would be more eager to identify those who are actually infected by replacing PCR testing which is widely known to give 90% false positive! People need to wake up!

With a recovery rate for those under 70 over 99.9% we are asking healthy people, even kids to be part of a clinical trial!!! Nobody knows the long term consequences. The vulnerable were given the "vaccine" so we should now open up society and get on with normal life.

Wow can't believe you mentioned Luke O'Neil!!! He presents his opinions are totally unbiased & genuine while knee-deep in big Pharma! He's the last person we should listen to when it comes to the new experimental drug (it's not a vaccine). Oliver you know that all our information has been heavily censored, people have been silenced and data hidden. You will probably censor this comment. I would urge Irish people to do their own research, go beyond main stream media who were bought out long ago.

Because we are dumb and cannot the research.. I will NEVER take it. I have read the science. These vaccine won't protect anyone from Covid. They are new technology with zero long term testing. Good luck to the idiots who took this
