This rise in insurance costs is a major "pain point," with 66% of drivers now citing insurance as their top financial worry, even ahead of fuel prices. Interestingly, a new Motor Insurance Transparency Code was implemented in March 2026, requiring insurers to be much clearer about why your price has changed. You should now see a Premium Summary Statement that breaks down exactly how much your costs moved compared to last year. This statement should also detail individual risk factors, like your location or license type, that are influencing your specific quote
It is tempting to just hit "renew", but switching could save you a fortune. Only 36% of motorists surveyed actually change providers, and with increased competition from new providers there could be competitive policies available for those who take the time to look.
